Privacy Policy

Effective October 28, 2026

LFGG ("we", "us") is run by the LFGG team. This policy explains what we collect when you use LFGG, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. Questions or requests: lfggsupport@gmail.com.

What we collect

Information you give us

  • Account: email address, password (stored only as a secure hash by our authentication provider), username, and optionally a display name, bio and profile picture.
  • Interests: favorite genres, themes and modes, platforms you play on, play styles, your "Top 4" games, and any gamer tags or social handles you add (for example Discord, PSN, Xbox or Twitch).
  • Activity: ratings (and the history of changes to them), play logs (status, dates, hours, platform, difficulty, solo/co-op), reviews (including every earlier version and any aspect scores), backlog, wishlist, lists, follows and follow requests, likes, comments, and games you skip in the Tastes deck.
  • Taste signals: games you mark "looks good" or "not for me".
  • Looking-for-group posts: posts you make on the LFG board (game, platform, region, play times, voice chat preference and your message) and replies you write.
  • Direct messages: messages you send and receive, and when you last read each conversation.
  • Settings: your privacy choices, such as who can see each part of your profile and who can message you, whether price-drop alerts are on, and any target prices you set on wishlisted games.
  • Membership: whether you're a supporter (shown as a badge on your profile) or on the membership waitlist, and supporters' profile style choices and uploaded images (profile picture, banner and up to four gallery screenshots, with any captions), which are shown to whoever can see your profile. When paid membership opens, payments will be handled by our payment provider; we won't see or store your card details.
  • Safety: users you block, and reports you submit.
  • Discord (optional): if you sign in with or link Discord, your Discord user ID and username (and, for sign-in, the email address on your Discord account), as provided by Discord. We never see your Discord password, servers or messages.
  • Steam (optional): if you connect Steam, your Steam ID (and whether you verified it with "Sign in with Steam"), the games and playtime in your Steam library, and your Steam wishlist if it's public, read from Steam's API. We also keep your achievement progress in your most-played games (to mark fully completed games as beaten and, for members, to show your progress), refreshed about weekly. If you're a member, we record your hours per game each time your library syncs, so your stats can show where your hours went; only you can see that history. Members' libraries also sync automatically each night. This only works if your Steam game details are public. We never see your Steam password. Disconnecting Steam (with "remove imported hours") or deleting your account removes this.

Information we create

  • Taste matches and game picks: similarity scores between your ratings and other users' ratings, which power player matches and the "taste agreement" shown on profiles, and predictions of how much you'd like games, built from your ratings, taste signals, shelves, interests and your taste twins' ratings.
  • Notifications about follows, likes and comments.

Information collected automatically

  • Cookies: we use only the cookies needed to keep you signed in. We don't use advertising or analytics cookies.
  • Server logs: our hosting providers record technical data such as IP address, browser type and request times to run and protect the service.

What others can see

LFGG is a social site, and you choose who sees what in Settings → Privacy. For your profile, your games and journal, reviews, lists, followers and following, and likes, you can pick everyone, followers, friends (people you follow who follow you back), or only you. You can require approval for new followers, choose who can message you, and opt out of appearing in other people's taste matches. By default everything except messaging is visible to everyone, and only people you follow can message you.

A linked Discord name shows on your profile (following your profile setting) and, if you tick the box when posting, on your LFG posts to signed-in players.

Always visible: your username, display name and profile picture, so people can tell who wrote a review, comment or LFG post. LFG posts and their replies are public while they're live. Totals such as a game's average rating or how many people liked a review include everyone, without saying who.

Always private: your email address, password, blocks, notifications, rating history, reports, skipped games, "looks good" / "not for me" signals, your game picks, and your own list of taste matches. Direct messages are visible only to the people in the conversation. If you report a message, our moderators can read that message (and only that one) to review it. Users you block (and users who block you) can't see each other's activity or message each other.

How we use it

  • To run LFGG: your account, profile, logs, reviews, lists, the LFG board, messages and other social features.
  • To compute taste matches and recommend games and players.
  • To send account emails (confirmation and password resets). We don't send marketing email.
  • To keep the community safe: moderation, enforcing our Terms, rate limiting and preventing abuse.
  • To fix problems and improve the service, including how well matching works.

If you're in the EU/UK, our legal bases are: performing our contract with you (running your account), our legitimate interests (safety, moderation, improving the service), and your consent (optional Steam import, which you can undo by deleting the imported logs or your account).

Who we share it with

We don't sell your personal information and we don't show ads. We share data only with services that help us run LFGG:

  • Supabase: database, authentication and file storage, including profile pictures (servers in the United States).
  • Vercel: website hosting.
  • Our email provider: to deliver account emails.
  • Discord: only if you sign in with or link Discord; the sign-in happens on Discord's own site.
  • Steam (Valve): only if you connect Steam; we send your Steam ID to Steam's API to fetch your library and achievement progress. "Sign in with Steam" happens on Steam's own site.
  • News publishers: the News page shows headlines from publishers' public feeds, and their thumbnail images load from the publisher's own servers, which can see your IP address like any website. Articles open on the publisher's site, under their privacy policy.
  • YouTube (Google): game trailers load from YouTube's privacy-enhanced player only when you press play. Until then, nothing is loaded from YouTube.
  • IGDB (Twitch): source of game information. We don't send them any personal data.
  • Store prices: we check games' prices on Steam's public store pages for price-drop alerts. We only send game IDs, never anything about you. Your wishlist and alert target prices stay on LFGG.
  • Stores you visit: some store links are affiliate links. When you follow one, the store (or its affiliate network) can see that you came from LFGG, under the store's own privacy policy. We don't share anything else with them.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of our users or the public.

How long we keep it

We keep your information while your account exists. Reviews, lists and comments you delete are hidden right away and permanently erased when you delete your account. Deleting your account permanently erases your profile and everything you created from our live database straight away. Copies may remain in our providers' encrypted backups for a limited time before they're overwritten. Records of moderation decisions are kept for safety, but without your identity attached.

Your rights and choices

  • Access and portability: download all your data as a file from Settings → Account.
  • Correction: edit your profile and interests in Settings → Profile, and change or delete your ratings, logs, reviews and lists at any time.
  • Deletion: delete your account in Settings → Account.
  • Objection and other requests: email lfggsupport@gmail.com. Depending on where you live, you may also be able to complain to your local data protection authority.

Children

LFGG is not for children under 13. We don't knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, contact us and we'll delete it.

Security and international transfers

We use encryption in transit (HTTPS), hashed passwords, and database access rules that limit each user to their own private data. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a unique password. Our providers store data in the United States. If you use LFGG from elsewhere, your information will be transferred there.

Demo profiles

During our beta, LFGG includes sample accounts that are clearly labeled "Demo profile". They aren't real people and will be removed before public launch.

Changes

If we make significant changes to this policy, we'll update the effective date above and tell signed-in users on the site before the changes take effect.
